First book review here on my blog after a long time 🙂 Why We Sleep is the first non-fiction/science book I’ve read in my life (as far as I remembered) and surprisingly, I loved this book.
I have posted the book review on my Bookstagram @siriusiqa and Goodreads, and would love to share the same on my blog.

REVIEW
“Sleep is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain and body health each day.”
I had no idea about the science/process during sleep and this is an eye-opening book that emphasized the importance of sleep and the dangers of lack of sleep. A sleep scientist writes this book and he did an exceptional job of explaining his field.
This book is divided into four parts and in a logical order. The best part about reading a non-fiction book is we can read the book in whole or in part, according to your taste. I’ve read Part 1 and directly moved to Part 4 as the chapters caught my interest first and continue with the rest of the book after.
Things I learned from this book are:
📖 Sleep as a memory aid to strengthen memories; e.g., before or after learning
📖 Sleep is a significant factor in lowering Alzheimer’s disease risk or delay its onset.
📖 A lack of sleep is related to ruining all the major physiological systems of the human body; cardiovascular (heart attack & blood pressure), metabolic (diabetes, weight gain & obesity), immune and reproductive.
📖 Sleep involves our emotional and mental health.
📖 Waking up at the same time every day is a good recommendation if you are having difficulty sleeping.
To apprehend all of the above, many research studies that are brilliant and impactful are insert in this book. The studies are simplified and well explained with all the findings to support his statements. For me, his writing style is easy to understand. The first few chapters are decent but I felt quite dull and sleepy at some chapters as the contents are more to science and I didn’t quite understand the whole concept 🙈 There are twelve tips for healthy sleep that are offered in the appendix of this book.
I’m not that particular about my sleep pattern. Sometimes I stay up till 2 AM but most of the time I sleep before midnight. And upon reading this book, I want to be more disciplined about my sleep pattern. At least, I want to follow one of twelve healthy sleep tips that stick to a sleep schedule, go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. Officially set my bedtime alarm yesterday 😌
I have shared excerpts from this book on my bookstagram. You may check here. So lazy to type or resize all the photos 😀
RATING AND RECOMMENDATION
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️
If you always loath the necessity of sleep, if you choose to think that sleep is not equally crucial as healthy diet and exercise, if you like to stay up most of the night to play games, watching movies/Kdramas and also reading 🥺, I recommend to read this book for you to know more about why we sleep.
In conclusion, this is an essential book to educate people to raise sleep awareness and better sleep practice. Don’t worry if you fall asleep while reading this book. The author is delighted with that 😉
Many thanks to Putri and Times Read for providing me with the review copy 😊 Really appreciate it as this is the book that everyone should read.
